Coro 94 at the Brandenburg Choral Festival of London
05 May 2019, concert 17:00
St. Stephen Walbrook, City of London
The ambience and gorgeous acoustic of St Stephen Walbrook are complemented by Coro 94’s choice of music in a pilgrimage through 600 years of choral music. Classic masterpieces like Elgar’s Lux Aeterna, Purcell’s Hear My Prayer and Lauridsen’s O Magnum Mysterium stand alongside stunningly beautiful contemporary gems such as Allain’s O Dayspring, Ešenvald’s Only In Sleep, and Kverno’s Corpus Christi Carol. A veritable palette of choral favourites! The choir will be joined in three pieces by the young, Slovak, international saxophonist Alžbeta Klasová. The juxtaposition of choir and saxophone is a very special and increasingly popular combination in contemporary music. It will be heard to great emotional effect in the performance of the oldest piece in the programme, the setting of Parce Mihi Domine by the early Renaissance Spanish composer Morales. Here, the saxophone improvises and embellishes over and around the simple but poignant music: a truly inspiring experience.
